As long as your baby is with a parent or adult you trust, it’s completely up to you when you begin the trick or treating tradition. There is no set age at which you can start taking your child trick or treating. It’s entirely dependent on your neighborhood and how comfortable you are with taking your baby out.
However, if you do plan to take a young baby out, make sure that you take the following into consideration:
- If it’s going to be a cold night, make sure baby is in a warm full body costume.
- Limit the time you’ll be out so baby doesn’t get over stimulated and is home in time for any naps, feeds or diaper changes.
- The WHO recommends no solid food before 6 months and dentists recommend avoiding sugary candy or chocolate before age 2. Depending on your child’s age, find some alternative treats such as a new toy or healthy snack options.
Remember, there are some great two person babywearing costumes and a range of fun stroller costumes you can buy or make for younger kids, too!
